Garlic

Hippocrates himself used garlic as a treatment a host of medical ailments and modern science agrees. Garlic acts as an antibacterial and antioxidant and garlic consumption has been linked to improved cardiovascular health.

Oregano

A member of the mint family, oregano is native to the Mediterranean but is now cultivated worldwide. Oregano is an antioxidant and has powerful antimicrobial activity; a Turkish research group has even found that oregano can reduce bacterial growth in packaged meats.

Mint

Mint has been used for thousands of years to treat aliments of the digestive system. Recent research has confirmed powerful antioxidant and antimicrobial properties of mint and its effects against cell growth in cancers are being investigated. This versatile spice can be used in savory or sweet dishes and is therefore easy to incorporate into the diet.

Cumin

This spice arrived in Turkey from neighboring Syria and is also used in Greek and Spanish cuisine. It has long been known to be rich in iron and more recent medical studies have uncovered anti-cancer properties.
